This October, we visited New Orleans to attend the technology event Unrealfest 2023. What a wonderful time we had. There were many informative presentations, lots of very kind people, and a nice carnival themed party. What more could you ask for?
New Orleans
First of all, the city was a blast. We explored the French Quarter, where we had our first charbroiled oysters
... and ran into a small parade.
The Event
The event was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center located downtown, right on the Mississippi river. It is hosted by the Unreal Engine team to bring artists and technologists together to learn about and discuss the advances in the engine as well as other technologies to be used with Unreal Engine. The event was focused on the gaming and VFX industries, but there were other industries present like Automotive.
Presentations
Throughout the massive convention center, there were presentations and labs to demonstrate the capabilities of the different technologies supporting the Unreal Engine community. There was, of course, the Unreal Engine keynote where the latest updates and strategy for the company were presented. Beyond that, there were other interesting presentations of technologies like Metahuman and RealityScan.
People
We were also able to connect to many wonderful individuals building innovative solutions to today's problems. From tackling the complexities of space travel to redefining underwater research, the combination of media technology and AI is transforming our way of life.
Party!
After a long day stuffing our brains, it was cathartic to dance and play games at this carnival-themed party.
The decorations were gorgeous and well beyond expectations.
This game was much harder than it looks!
